Sizing
The Balsamroot Mitten is written to have 0.7-1.7”/1.8-4.3 cm of positive ease, meaning it will be 0.7-1.7”/1.8-4.3 cm larger than your widest hand circumference. The mitten is designed to fit a hand circumference of 7-8”/17.8-20 cm.
The finished products knit in correct gauge measure:
- Mitten circumference measured above thumb: 8.7”/22cm
- Length from bottom edge to top: 9.6”/24.4cm
- Thumb circumference: 4”/10cm
GAUGE
22 sts x 24 rows/rounds = 4” x 4” (10 cm x 10 cm) on Size US 7 (4.5 mm) needles, or size needed to achieve gauge, using Violent Cat Lady Bloom (100g/200yd/183m).
Construction
The Balsamroot Mittens are worked wrist up, beginning with 2x1 ribbing. The gusset of the mitten is knit while working colorwork and then stitches are put on hold for the thumb. The body and thumb of the mitten are knit while working colorwork, with decreases used to shape the top of the tops.
