Sizing
This sweater is written to have 4-8”/10-20 cm of positive ease, meaning it will be 4-8”/10-20 cm larger than your widest upper body circumference. See below for full sweater schematic and sizing info.
The sizes XS (S, M, L, XL) [2XL, 3XL, 4XL, 5XL] are designed to fit an upper body chest circumference of 27.5–31.5 (32–36, 36.5–40.5, 41–45, 45.25–49.25) [49.5–53.75, 54–58.25, 58.5–62.75, 63–67]"/70–80 (81–91, 92.5–103, 104–114.5, 115–125) [125.5–136.5, 137–148, 148.5–159.5, 160–170.5] cm.
Note from Jade: I am typically a Women’s US Medium and have a bust circumference of 37”/94cm. The white/brown sample I’m wearing in the photos is a size M. The __/__ sample I’m wearing in the photos is a size _.
Needles Needed
The Balsamroot Sweater knitting kit does not include needles. Needles are available as an optional add-on.
- Size US 8 (5 mm) 16”/40 cm and 32”/80 cm circular needles OR 40”/100 cm circular needles
- Size US 10 (6 mm) 16”/40 cm and 32”/80 cm circular needles OR 40”/100 cm circular needles
GAUGE
18 sts x 21 rows/rounds = 4” x 4” (10 cm x 10 cm) in Upper and Lower Body Chart on Size US 10 (6 mm) needles, or size needed to achieve gauge, using Violent Cat Lady Bloom (100g/200yd/183m).
Construction
The Balsamroot Sweater is worked top-down, beginning German short rows lengthen the back of the sweater while simultaneously working colorwork charts. Raglan increases shape the yoke, and then the body and sleeves are knit in the round while simultaneously working colorwork charts as well. To finish, ribbing is worked on the hems of the sleeves and body, and the collar is cast on directly to the sweater.
